City Of God Movie Review The City Of God - 817 Words
The movie, The City of God, is based on a true story that took place during the early 1960s in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The movie tells a story from the point of view of a boy named Rocket. He was born and raised in the slums of Rio de Janeiro. Throughout the film, he struggles with the fear of being dragged into crime, violence, and drugs. His goal is to one day break free from the slums in which he is currently trapped. The surrounding environment and society during this time was highly influenced by what everyone else was doing. The main characters were saboteurs and always causing corruption around town. Some notable characters would be Shaggy, Goose, and Clipper who together comprised a group called the ââ¬Å"Tender Trio.â⬠They wereâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦It allows the audience to connect with each individual character and to understand the charactersââ¬â¢ feelings. One scene in this film that had a big impact on me related to a ââ¬Å"runtâ⬠named, Steak. Steak classified himself as a man because he said he kills, snorts, and smokes. The word ââ¬Å"runtâ⬠in this film is another name for a young kid. He was only about 8 years old. The scene depicts Steak bragging to superior people in order to fit in. He felt peer pressured to say he did all these horrible acts, which was extremely saddening because, in reality, a kid his age should never be exposed to crime, murder, or drugs. During this time Brazil is a dictatorship but the film does not emphasize it enough to make it a central theme of the movie. It is a shame that kids who grow up in these certain situations donââ¬â¢t know any other way of life than the type of culture they are surrounded by. The idea of little kids killing people just perpetuates the trend of senseless killing that seems to be prominent in these communities. Life does not seem to retain much value to them. It becomes their nature to kill and do drugs, starting at such a young age. In a very similar way, kids in more developed communities, like America, do not fully understand communities where every day is a fight for life. Whether it was decades ago or today, it is crazy to think that horrific situations like these occur at all. They also have sensitive amygdalae, the almond-shaped brain structures involved in processing fear and anxiety (Pappas 2015). Together, these give neurotic people an internal threat generator that can cause them to feel as if they are under threat even in a neutral environment. Further, this causes them to imagine problems that do not exist. Their brains are creating their own threats due to the functions of their brains. Neurotic people not only invent problems, but they also tend to become very stressed by them (Pappas 2015). They create scenarios in their heads that, despite being imagined, present a threat to them and cause them to panic. Neurotic people experience intense negative emotions even when there is no threat present. These self-generated thoughts are similar to daydreams because they are completely imagined (Khazan 2015). This thought-genera ting network is usually difficult for them to turn off, which makes them more prone to overthinking, dwelling and mulling over problems - real and imagined. This constant

Success in Sales
Question: Describe about the Success in Sales? Answer: Success in Sales: One who obtains the lowest price is not always the achiever of Success neither it depends on the one having the best customer nor to the most intelligent person. It is considered that success generally lies to the person who practice honest work to whomever they come to deal with. According to Mark Hunters past experiences he personally came in contact with more than thousand salespeople having their own level of failures and success. What he felt about success is that one of the reliable factors to achievement is not the exterior environment but a commitment to integrity (Thesaleshunter.com, 2015). This factor remains reliable no matter what economical circumstances the market is going through (Widener, n.d.). People who work in sale for a long time have the idea about identifying the people whom other people follow and trust. These people sometimes have the potential to act as a leader but in reality they are often not identified in a high place of an enterprise (Gaffney and Francis, 2009). It is a fact that these people can influence others because of their honesty. The course of integrity initiates when someone allows himself to be publically as well as personally responsible for his every actions. Integrity refers to holding oneself for a higher degree of responsibility for maintaining their standard. There are certain points for strengthening integrity, they are: Integrity is an internal choice The practice of integrity can be started at any point of time no matter whatever past record one holds. Acceptance of the reality that one may not shut every agreement because the person is not prepared to adjust with his standards. Integrity is best evaluated when the person is not under any surveillance. To take lesson and learn from each and every person who practice integrity, not only when times are good but also when circumstances are not favorable. One owes it to himself for achieving success not just because the person had been in sales for decades but because they are more inclined towards honesty. Success achieved through honesty has an unparallel satisfaction. It brings long term success. References Gaffney, S. and Francis, C. (2009).Honesty sells. Hoboken, N.J.: Wiley. History Of Taoism Essays - Taoism, Philosophy, Chinese Culture
History Of Taoism The History of Taoism There is a dispute on the origins of Taoism. One theory is the earliest known Taoist text may be the work of a minister of the ruler of the Shang-Yin dynasty in the eighteenth century B.C. The other theory is that it was began by the mentor of the father of the Chou dynasty in the twelfth century. What is known is that, Li Erh (6th century BCE) who is better known as Lao Tzu (the Old Master), was the author of one of the most influential texts of Taoism, the Tao Te Ching. Lao Tzu, a contemporary of Confucius, was the keeper of the imperial library, but in his old age he disappeared to the west, leaving behind him the Tao Te Ching (Book of Tao and Virtue). From this book, which is only about five-thousand words in length, Taoism gained it's name. Taoism believes Tao, or the way, to be the mystical, mysterious, and ultimate principle underlying form, substance, being, and change. Tao encompasses everything. It can be used to understand the human body, the universe and nature. The logic of Taoism encompasses the Yin and Yang forces, which represent all opposites. These two forces are complementary elements of all systems that thrive in an interdependent network and result in the harmony or balance of the system. The natural order of the tension between Yin and Yang forces in all systems results in a neverending process of change (production and reproduction and the transformation of energy). Taoism is based on the experience of this universal way (Cleary p3). The goal of Taoism is to perfect the mastery of human nature and life in three areas. They are well-being, social harmony and accelerated evolution of consciousness Taoism puts a great deal of value on human life. Taoists do not focus on the afterlife, but rather emphasize efficient methods of elevating health to obtain longevity. Taoists firmly believe that human lives are in our control. Therefore, Taoism teaches people to enhance their health and longevity by minimizing their desires and centering themselves on stillness. The most famous advocate of Taoism, Lao Tzu, felt Taoism promotes nonaggressive, peaceful coexistence of factions. He described the ideal state as one that is fully loved by it's people. One in which people love their country and lifestyle so much that even though the next country is so close that the citizens can hear its roosters crowing and dogs barking they are content to die of old age without ever having gone to see it. He felt weapons were tools of destruction and any decent person would loathe them. He also felt that there should not be any celebrating after a war, only grieving. The two main classics of Taoism are the Tao Te Ching and the Chuang-Tzu. The Toa Te Ching was the philosophy of choice of legalist, strategist and statesmen of all types. It is an anthology of ancient sayings, poetry and philosophies. It's author is Lao-Tzu or Old Master who is renown as one of the most famous of Taoist intellectuals. It is believed to have been written around 500 B.C. towards the end of the Spring and Autumn period when order in China was disintegrating. During the second century B.C. the Tao Te Ching was established as the sourcebook of practical wisdom in the imperial court. The Chuang Tzu was preferred by more mystical Taoist. It was said to have been written by Chuang Chou, who is the earliest known teacher of the writings of Lao-Tzu. The bulk of the text consists of fables and monologues illustrating the teachings of the Tao Te Ching. Although it was known for it's mysticism, it was a well regarded text because of it's literary excellence. After the fall of the Han dynasty the Chuang Tzu emerged to become one of the most regarded books by intellectuals, poets and artists replacing the Confucianism of the Han dynasty. Both books have not only been implemented deep into Chinese philosophy, but they have also been translated into many languages and have become a part of World philosophy. The Taoist canon can be traced back to the first comprehensive Taoist texts called the San-tung Ching-shu mu-lu prepared

Dolphin Fish (Mahi-Mahi) Facts
Dolphin Fish (Mahi-Mahi) Facts The dolphin fish is not a dolphin. Unlike dolphins, which are mammals, dolphin fish are a type of ray-finned fish. The dolphin fish most likely got its confusing common name because it was previously classified in the genus Dolfyn. It also has a melon-shaped head, much like that of a true dolphin. In the modern classification system, the fish belongs to the genus Coryphaena. If a restaurant menu includes dolphin, its referring to the dolphin fish, not the mammal. Some restaurants use the alternative names mahi-mahi and pompano to prevent confusion. Fast Facts: Dolphin Fish Scientific Name: Coryphaena hippurus (common dolphin fish); Coryphaena equiselis (pompano dolphin fish)Other Names: Dolphinfish, dolphin, mahi-mahi, dorado, pompanoDistinguishing Features: Brilliantly colored fish with single dorsal fin spanning the length of the body; males have protruding foreheadsAverage Size: 1 meter in length and up to 40 kilograms (88 lb) weightDiet: CarnivorousLife Span: Up to 5 years, but usually less than 2 yearsHabitat: Temperate, subtropical, and tropical oceans worldwideConservation Status: Least ConcernKingdom: AnimaliaPhylum: ChordataClass: ActinopterygiiOrder: PerciformesFamily: CoryphaenidaeFun Fact: The dolphin fish is a very fast swimmer, reaching speeds of nearly 60 mph. Description There are two species of dolphin fish. The common dolphin fish (also known as mahi-mahi or dorado) is C. hippurus. The other species of dolphin fish is C. equiselis, which is also known as the pompano dolphin fish. Both species in the genus Coryphaena have a compressed head and single dorsal fin running the full length of the body. Both the anal and caudal fins are sharply concave. A mature male (bull) has a prominent protruding forehead, while a female has a rounded head. Mature females are smaller than males. Their long, slender bodies are well-suited to fast swimming. Mahi-mahi swim up to 50 knots (92.6 kph or 57.5 mph). Pompano dolphin fish are sometimes mistaken for juvenile common dolphin fish or mahi-mahi because they are small, reaching a maximum length of 127 centimeters (50 in). Pompano dolphin fish are bright blue-green with silver-gold sides. The fish fade in color to dull gray-green when they die. A typical mahi-mahi reaches a length of one meter and a weight of 7 to 13 kg (15 to 29 lb), but fish over 18 kg (40 lb) have been caught. These fish are brilliantly colored in shades of blue, green, and gold. Pectoral fins are iridescent blue, the back is green and blue, while flanks are silvery-gold. Some individuals sport red spots. Out of water, the fish appears golden (giving rise to the name dorado). Upon death, color fades to yellowish-gray. Distribution Both species of dolphin fish are migratory. The common dolphin fish prefers coastal and open water from sea level to a depth of 85 meters in temperate, subtropical, and tropical oceans worldwide. The pompano dolphin fish range overlaps that of the common dolphin fish, but it usually lives in the open ocean and occurs as deep as 119 meters. The fish form schools and tend to congregate in seaweed and under floating objects, including buoys and boats. Diet and Predators Dolphin fish are carnivores that prey upon zooplankton, squid, crustaceans, and smaller fish. The fish is prey to other large oceanic predators, including billfish and sharks. Both species are important for commercial and sports fishing. The fish are generally considered safe to eat, but they are moderately contaminated with mercury and can serve as a vector for ciguatera poisoning. Reproduction and Life Cycle Dolphin fish grow and mature very quickly. Fish reach maturity between 4 and 5 months of age and start spawning when they reach a length of about 20 centimeters. Spawning occurs throughout the year when water currents are warm. Females spawn two to three times each year, producing 80,000 to a million eggs each time. Pompano dolphin fish have a life span of up to 3 to 4 years, but most live less than 2 years. Mahi-mahi live up to 5 years, but rarely exceed 4 years. Conservation Status Both the common dolphin fish and pompano dolphin fish are categorized as least concern on the IUCN Red List. Its population is stable. However, the fish face threats from declining habitat quality. The species has high commercial value and is extensively harvested. Many countries have imposed bag limits and size limits to support sustainable fishing. Researchers View - Essay Example They include advocacy, constructivism, pragmatism, and post-positivism. The purpose of this paper is to assess a researchersââ¬â¢ world view and explain how it influences the approach to research. Makoe, Richardson, and Prince (2008) represent the post-positivism philosophical world view. Post-positivism world view, also known as the scientific method of research deals with reduction research i.e. it reduces ideas into small variables that are used to test the theory and the sample subject. This world view is used to generalize population through qualitative research using a large number of samples. Thus, the research done by Makoe, Richardson, and Prince (2008) used qualitative research to find out the conceptions of adult students embarking on distance education. One assumptions of post-positivism stated by Creswell (2009) are that knowledge is conjectural. This means that the truth can never be found in research, and that is why researchers nullify the hypothesis. For instance according to Makoe, Richardson, and Prince (2008), there is no consensus about how the conceptions of learning can be characterized and whether they constitute a developmental hierarchy. Another assumption according to Creswell (2009) is that data, evidence and rational considerations shape knowledge. This means that the researcher collects the information based on observations or from questionnaires filled by the participants. From the article, researchers collected data using a 60-item questionnaire which were mailed to students taking preparatory courses by distance learning. According to Creswell (2009) in quantitative method of research, researchers reduce ideas into small variables, which they use to formulate questions and hypothesis. In Makoe, Richardson, and Prince (2008), researchers used the information they collected to come up with a hypothesis that all adult learners taking long distance education hold distinctive conceptions of learning; hence they

Product Lunch Presentation - Essay Example However, these advancements had their equal share of success and failure. They were also associated with severe criticism; criticism which resulted from fatal or minor errors committed by practitioners, which have proven to be detrimental to a patientââ¬â¢s life. In addition to that, the scope of these advancements was only limited to carrying out basic medical procedures and even after that they came at a great cost. This deficiency in the field of medical practices combined with the desire of human being to have a healthy and convenient lifestyle influenced researchers and scientists all over the world to come up with an innovative idea. That is when the concept of robotics was introduced into health care system all over the world just like it is used in the field of construction, manufacturing and information technology. Robotics in health care system also witnessed a rapid advancement since the time of its inception. But there were disadvantages associated with this technology that came in the form of huge size, high cost of production and maintenance. Thus the idea of making it portable and cost effective came into limelight and thus efforts were fostered in to achieving this goal. Till now various portable health robots have been developed which can perform basic level medical procedures but some disadvantages associated with them are that they are not user friendly and that their functionality is limited to a certain extent. This is where a new innovation called ââ¬Å"MY HEALTHY ROBOTâ⬠developed by me/my company fits into the health care system thereby addressing the deficiencies noted in this line of operation. MY HEALTHY ROBOT ââ¬â WHAT IS IT? ââ¬Å"My healthy robotâ⬠is a user friendly portable health care device which provides an in depth analysis of a clientââ¬â¢s health thereby giving easy to read description of the clientââ¬â¢s health status as output. Since the output can be easily analyzed by anybody, hence it disqualif ies the need for visiting a doctor to get the results analyzed. It is an advanced device which provides the client with a painless procedure (no needle method) to examine blood sugar level. This process is called the ââ¬Å"Swab Saliva Processâ⬠which would only require the client to swab saliva and stick it inside the device and wait for a few minutes and thereafter the robot will dispense the health report. This will offer the client with a convenient method of examining his blood without having to wait for countless of hours in the doctorââ¬â¢s chamber and that too in empty stomach. It displays accurate results within a span of few minutes and hence it is less time consuming. The product also has an additional feature called the ââ¬Å"My baby modeâ⬠which will be helpful for pregnant women or anyone taking care of a baby. ââ¬Å"MY HEALTHY ROBOT ââ¬â PRICING OPTION & FACILITIESâ⬠According to Allen & Dare (2004), price of a product or service is a critical factor which attracts and engages customers with the attribute of the product or service. Similar theory has been explained by Anderson & Simester (2003). Product price in general can influence the purchasing decision of a customer (Bizer & Petty, 2002; Coulter, 2001). It can be explained by the fact that buying the product will depend upon the purchasing power of the customer. In light of these theories, efforts have been made to keep the price of the product at an appropriate level in order make the product available to

In addition, recruitment and selection of good employees is vital part of success. My mother was a senior accountant before, so she could help me manage finance matters. Target market and customers One of our target markets is white collar employees with middle or high income. These people pay more attention on quality of life and have a good consumption level. Another is business customers, which need flowers to decorate the site of activities, parties, events or meetings. Competition However, there are some strong competitors in this market, especially Starbucks. It is the worlds largest coffee shop chain from America. Starbucks enjoyed a higher reputation and strong brand effect in China. There are about 31 Starbucks in Suzhou alone, but some problems are observed in the course of rapid extension. For instance, single and boring of the unchangeable products and service is a big weakness. To the contrary, Seventh Heaven Cafe provides a combination service and products to customers. It is a novel and creative form to attract people. Besides, high quality service and elegant environment are our powerful points of attraction. Sales and marketing strategy To gain more customers, the price of our products is slightly below the Starbucks. Internet advertising and posters are effective for publicity. Furthermore, we use push money and allowance to motivate my employee to increase sales. Critical risk factors Despite of these, some risks still exist, for example some people are reluctant to try something new, or we make losses at early stage. All of budgets are based on the business feasibility study, but there are so many unpredictable changes in the reality, the cash flow may be not enough. Moreover, the shortage and outflow of talent in related field are hidden trouble for the business.

Silent Movies (Summary)
SILENT MOVIES Talk to people who saw films for the first time when they were silent, and they will tell you the experience was magic. The silent film, with music, had extraordinary powers to draw an audience into the story, and an equally potent capacity to make their imagination work. They had to supply the voices and the sound effects, and because their minds were engaged, they appreciated the experience all the more. The audience was the final creative contributor to the process of making a film. The films have gained a charm and other worldliness with age but, inevitably, they have also lost something. The impression they made when there was no rival to the moving picture was more profound, more intense; compared to the easily accessible pictures of today, it was the blow of a two-handed axe, against the blunt scraping of a tableknife. The silent period may be known as ââ¬Å"The Age of Innocenceâ⬠but it included years unrivalled for their dedicated viciousness. In Europe, b etween 1914 and 1918 more men were killed to less purpose than at any other time in history. Chaplin was a master of pantomime. His virtuoso improvisations quickly attracted the attention of American film-makers. At first he turned down all offers but in 1913 he finally joined Mack Sennet's film company. His success with the public was truly unique. The fourth actor, Harry Langdon, was noted for his man-child portrait that made him different from the other major comedians of his time. The four great comedians created a great comic tradition that was carried on with the sound age. Being A Slave Worthy Of Manhood - 1149 Words
Being a Slave Worthy of Manhood In the narrative The Life of Frederick Douglass, it is clear that Douglas had a very strong option about the differences between men. He did not seem to have the common out look in the differences between free men and slave, but rather something deeper. He believed that a slave with out hope or drive for a better life was not a true man, but that a true man was someone who was able to respect himself and become someone worthy of respect from others. Throughout, the story of Fredrick Douglass there seems to be many turning points in his journey to becoming what be defined as a man. Douglass seems to believe that even those men that enslaved him are not true men, but that man who was enslaved could become true men by gaining respect and working to better their lot everyday whether enslaved or free. Aliens essay free essay sample
Throughout many years there have been sightings, invasions, abductions and more about aliens. There is a big controversy whether or not aliens actually exist. Many see big things in the sky that look cool and they keep coming closer to them and they think itââ¬â¢s a UFO so they automatically think that there are aliens. The term alien has acquired many different meanings such as extraterrestrial or someone from ââ¬Å"outer spaceâ⬠. Another meaning is someone coming to the US illegally. There are also many types of aliens for example there are small grey aliens, there are also aliens called ââ¬Å"taller beingsâ⬠who are taller than the small grey aliens but shorter than a human. Introduction Since the 1950s until present day there have been many cases showing that people and families have gone missing. Although itââ¬â¢s just people saying what happened to them it is still proof of aliens abducting people. We will write a custom essay sample on Aliens essay or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page For example, in 1968 these two friends were at a camp relaxing when they suddenly saw a bright light coming right at them and the shape of the object was round. This object according to them looked like a UFO and they started getting really scared. This one guy Michael saw two creatures in the object and they had big heads, no hair and weird necks. The two creatures then took him and his friend without anyone knowing. It was just like a kidnap. But the only thing about that case is that there were no other people around to see it happen. Another case that makes people wonder if aliens actually exist is the case of 1988 with Peter Khoury and his wife Vivian. Peter says that he had ran into aliens a time before this but this time was bad. He was lying in bed trying to sleep when he felt something grab his ankle and he turned numb. Peter then saw three or four figures in his room that looked like aliens. These figures told peter to relax and then stabbed a needle into his head which is when peter had blacked out. The next day his wife Vivian saw an area on peters head with dry blood. But she didnââ¬â¢t think anything of it. Ever since then Peter has been researching information on aliens to see if they actually exist. Another example of an alien abduction is in 1975 when even loggers were heading back home from work when they saw a flying disk. One of the workers went to get a better look and got hit by a blue beam which the other six guys saw. The guy disappeared and didnââ¬â¢t return for five days. Many people wonder if alien abductions are real or if they are just dark lucid dreams that people have. Well many people have looked into this and many believe it is all in the head. People thing the phenomenon in th e head is the reason for all of these people believing in alien abductions. It all started back in 1947 when aliens used a tractor to kidnap a female which they called specimen 9. Many say this is not a good enough reason for people believing in aliens. According to scientists most of the people saying they have been abducted said they were abducted from their own beds. Scientists also say that there is something that has happened throughout their lives that cause this. Researchers say that most of the alien abductions that supposedly happened because their minds are playing tricks on them. They also say this may come from a sleep disorder called sleep paralysis. Controversy Many people believe that there are aliens and others think itââ¬â¢s just in there head or others are crazy. Many humans wonder if we are the only ones on the universe. Some think yes we are, while others say we are not. Also people wonder if aliens are a threat to humans or not. So many questions by people because they wonder a lot about it. Opinion My opinion as a high school student is that alien abductions do exist. I have many reasons for believing this; I mean the evidence is right there although many refuse to believe it. My reasons for believing in this is mainly because I believe in extraterrestrials, I mean I think we would be pretty silly to think that we are alone in this universe. Although I do believe in this that it doesnââ¬â¢t mean I believe every case that has reported. There are cases out there that are bit suspicious to me and I do have to consider that there are a lot of dishonest people out there who just want attention. But some cases are very believable and caught my eye because they just seem true.

The Wasps Nest Essay Example For Students
The Wasps Nest Essay Rosenbergs The Wasps Nest is a poem that on a literal basis tells the tale of a pair of wasps building their nest in a persons mailbox and the struggle of that person about whether to destroy the nest. Yet Rosenberg uses the idea of the nest as a microcosm of the human reality to explore the fragility of our existence in a world where we think ourselves masters of all that we survey. Rosenberg uses a sharp sense of contrast to crate a struggled tone within the poem. This is intended to examine Rosenbergs juxtaposition of strength and weakness, his strong sense of setting and powerful onomatopoeic description in the body of this essay. We will write a custom essay on The Wasps Nest specifically for you for only $16.38 $13.9/page Order now Rosenbergs key technique is his use of contrast between strength and weakness to expose our inherent fragilities. This contrast is tellingly revealed when he talks of the fragile cradles of love, a metaphor which sums up the entirely of Rosenbergs poem. There is a sense of strength in the image conveyed through the word cradle- it brings to the readers mind an idea of castles and physical strength that the walls and stone bring. Yet this cradle is fragile a word more commonly used to describe a glass object than stone, but which highlights that within this bastion of strength, where people appear to be in control of their own destiny, they are instead at their weakest. This idea is reinforced as Rosenberg is describing the idea of love- something that man should be in control of, because it is their emotion and often the bedrock of our lives, yet which every reader knows is just as fickle and unpredictable as anything else, something over which am has no control. This idea of weakness within apparent strength is the fundamental theme of the poem, which is a contrast highlight of the conflict between these two positions. Indeed, Rosenberg creates this conflict when he establishes the wasps nest as a microcosm for the human world. His initial description of the wasps as aerial tigers gives them a sense of power and almost invulnerability. It is a vivid metaphor as the tiger is a powerful predator that to the reader exudes strength: it is something that seems invincible within its own world. And, perhaps, the wasps, too, are invulnerable within their world of insects: yet Rosenberg reminds the reader that this being of strength can be destroyed easily outside of its reality. The poet states, quite emotionless, that one blow could crush them. The idea of the wasps strength is shattered; the sheer finality of the word crush gives a sense of utter annihilation to the reader- a feeling of the intense vulnerability of the wasps. This is highlighted further by the fact that all it would take is a single blow- such a small effort that the fragility of the wasps seems almost visible. Rosenberg has created a scenario whereby the interaction between strength and weakness seems obvious; a being may rule supreme within its own reality, but that does not grant it infinite invulnerability. This juxtaposition is also evident in the sense of location within the poem, a key tool that Rosenberg uses to develop his theme. The first location is a metal hold, which seems like a place of strength, simply because of the fact it is made of metal, something which seems impervious to harm. But this setting of strength becomes one of weakness; the nest is built of paper and mud. Within the readers world, these are fundamentally fragile; both mud and paper seem so easily manipulated. The strength of the metal hold is reduced; what seems so solid is actually insubstantial- something which barely exists. It is a reminder through place of the conflict between strength and weakness. .u34d7dead17a4f28b154c080e2104dd22 , .u34d7dead17a4f28b154c080e2104dd22 .postImageUrl , .u34d7dead17a4f28b154c080e2104dd22 .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .u34d7dead17a4f28b154c080e2104dd22 , .u34d7dead17a4f28b154c080e2104dd22:hover , .u34d7dead17a4f28b154c080e2104dd22:visited , .u34d7dead17a4f28b154c080e2104dd22:active { border:0!important; } .u34d7dead17a4f28b154c080e2104dd22 .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .u34d7dead17a4f28b154c080e2104dd22 { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .u34d7dead17a4f28b154c080e2104dd22:active , .u34d7dead17a4f28b154c080e2104dd22:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .u34d7dead17a4f28b154c080e2104dd22 .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .u34d7dead17a4f28b154c080e2104dd22 .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .u34d7dead17a4f28b154c080e2104dd22 .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .u34d7dead17a4f28b154c080e2104dd22 .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .u34d7dead17a4f28b154c080e2104dd22:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .u34d7dead17a4f28b154c080e2104dd22 .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .u34d7dead17a4f28b154c080e2104dd22 .u34d7dead17a4f28b154c080e2104dd22-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .u34d7dead17a4f28b154c080e2104dd22:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: "Romeo and Juliet"Ã EssayIt is also an idea that becomes more explicit when Rosenberg talks of it as the wasps home. A home has an implicit idea of strength; it is a place where, the reader fells, that inhabitant is the master of their own universe, because it is a home. The word has an intangible power; yet it is a quality tempered, because it is built from paper and mud. The wasps may be the master of its domain; but to us, its domain is fundamentally weak.

Slavery in the Roman Empire
The Roman Empire had mixed complexities with ruthlessness and could suddenly heave from civilization, dictatorship, and extreme greed. Besides, it had different leaders who exercised their powers in unusual ways. Consequently, the unworthy empires abused their offices by infuriating their subjects. They employed several ways of ruling over the Roman Empire (Gordon 94).Advertising We will write a custom essay sample on Slavery in the Roman Empire specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More For instance, the emperors established the top most social order in Rome where the less privileged especially the poor and the slaves were discriminated. As a result, the administration interfered with the social status of many citizens negatively (Duiker and Spielvogel 83). Actually, they rarely had freedom since others who felt that they were highly placed in the society could mock some of the subjects. Apparently, there were several conflicts and anxious ness among the citizens within the Roman community. Certainly, this was because of the social classes that were in place between different groups of people. The elite were the rich people, and majority of the population that comprised of the common farmers, artisans, and merchants known as the plebeians occupied the low status (85). Slavery in the Ancient Roman Empire was highly abusive and degrading. Joining the likes of Ancient Greece and Egypt, Rome practiced slavery that was not based on race. The empire had captured sailors, prisoners of war, and pirates who could be mistreated, branded and whipped. The harsh treatment is evident in the manner in which their owners possessed them as properties, and could sell or kill them at will, with no punishment for human rightââ¬â¢s violation. Even though the concept of slavery was wholly accepted within the empire, Seneca, a poet and philosopher, held that slaves, just like other humans, should be given fair treatment. The empire pract iced manumission in which slaves could either buy their freedom or get outright release from their masters (Gordon 95). Such slaves were accorded fewer rights since the manumission was informal. However, slaves who were freed formally had to go to the magistrate, and were given rights to become full citizens of Rome, but could not hold public offices. On the other hand, their off springs had full rights of citizenship. So orchestrated was the slavery aspect within this society that even after full freedom, former slaves could not overcome the slavery stigma.Advertising Looking for essay on ancient history? Get your first paper with 15% OFF Learn More Since the Roman population was incredibly sensitive about the social status of every individual, it was made up of various groups and domestic slaves, which were the fundamental groups in the society. In fact, the less advantaged had no right to influence the decisions made by other people con sidered great in the society and, subsequently, the older citizens sold most young citizens into slavery. Worst of all, some were even killed especially those who attempted to oppose the actions by the elders and the most respected people in the society (105). On the other hand, this form of inequality resulted into a governance structure where there was a shared advantage among the citizens. For instance, most of the rich showed a lot of respect to those whom they employed; they could go with them to the social places and business forums. The Roman Empire preferred slave labor to any other job. Consequently, most people who were arrested and detained during the war became slaves in the Empire. Most bosses exploited the slaves, as they worked in large agricultural firms and were beaten up ruthlessly. Besides, Greek slaves were in high demand because most of them were professionals. Businesspersons also employed them as shop assistants and artisans. However, most slaves from other re gions were household workers who could cook and take care of gardens (Gibbon 202). As a result of the exploitation, there was an episodic slave revolts revolutions which was founded to help them come out of the bondage . The movement was led by Thracian Gladiator Spartacus; he succeeded in overpowering most of the Romans. Nonetheless, the Roman government later killed him. Even though most of the girls in some well-to-do families went to primary schools to where they received basic education, they were forced into early marriage at their teens. This culture led largely to discrimination on women. Definitely, they had no voice in the community and they could not question any move by men (Duiker and Spielvogel 95). Further, most men viewed them as children and even the law required the males to be their advocates. They could not even own property or even attend any function presided over by men. The Roman law considered slaves as personal properties that owners could possess, mistreat , and dispossess at will. With poor living and working conditions, slaves contributed to the growth of the Ancient Romeââ¬â¢s economy. There are several reasons for the fall of the empire. Some of the combined dramatic events that led to the fall of Rome include political incompetence, invasion by the Visigoths and Huns tribes from central and northern Europe respectively, corruption, inflation and military overreach (Gordon 99). Historians have suggested that the infighting within the army coupled with the infiltration of Germanic tribesmen into the ranks diluted and weaken the once powerful force. Moreover, the extraneous expenses by the military in defending the borders of the empire from barbarian attacks drained the government.Advertising We will write a custom essay sample on Slavery in the Roman Empire specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More With such overspending in the military, the government could not provide vital service s, such as public housing and maintain quality roads (Gibbon 245). Frustrations set in among the Romans and they went on to lose the need to fight for the interests of the empire. Sensing lose of desire to defend the Empire, the government hired soldiers from foreign nations and unemployed city mobs. The new crops in the army were not only unreliable, but also expensive to maintain, thus pushed up inflation. The increase in prices of essential commodities that began after the reign of Marcus Aurelius arose due to less gold to mint coins, as the Romans were spending them to pay for luxury items. The coins lost value due to the reduction in the number of gold, thus forcing merchants to increase the prices of their products. Wealthy men carried out large-scale farming in large estates, latifundia, and used slaves as the source of labor (Duiker and Spielvogel 100). The large-scale aspect made it difficult for citizen farmers to compete with the low prices. Consequently, they abandoned f arming and moved to cities with unemployed people. Evidently, unemployment among the working class became rife in the Roman Empire; it went on to cause instability in the operations of the empire. Nevertheless, the Roman Empire later failed due to inadequate support from a section of citizens who were disappointed by the manner it carried out its duties. Evidently, the subjects of Justinian were the most affected group. The Empire experienced poverty; this was after the monks took over Europe and Asia (Gibbon 240). Acts of oppression are evident in the fall of the Roman Empires. Works Cited Duiker, William J., and Jackson J. Spielvogel. The Essential World History. 7th ed. Belmont, Calif.: Wadsworth;, 2013.
